Frequently Asked Questions

How do I customize?

We make the design process as concise as possible. If you are interested in having Western Mokume design you a custom piece, just fill out the contact form and we will reach out to you as soon as we are able. Please include any pertinent information we need to get started!

Tell me about the process…

Once we receive your contact form, we will set up an appointment for you to talk directly to the designer. This process can be as long or short as you’d like. There is no charge associated with consultations. Once a design is approved by you, a 50% deposit is required to start making your design a reality.

What is the turnaround time?

Typically, the turnaround time for a custom piece of jewelry is 6-8 weeks after the design is finalized, however that can vary depending on the complexity of the design. Once we have the final design, we will then let you know when you can expect the piece to be completed. In special circumstances, we may be able to do a rush order for an additional charge.

How do I get my Ring size?

Please go to any jewelry store that is convenient to you and have them find the best size and band width. Once you have your ring size as well as the band width you prefer, we will send you three rings to determine which fits you best. We recommend that you wear the sizing band that’s most comfortable for several days, to ensure an accurate measurement. There is a $50 fee for the sizing rings that will be applied to your final design upon return to us (prepaid label included). Sizing warranty only applies if the size is measured with the kit we send you.

If you are wanting to surprise someone with one of our custom rings, such as for an engagement, we are happy to work with you and see what options are available.

Will the Pattern Change over Time?

No; because we ensure each billet is made properly, the individual layers become one solid piece and will hold together through the life of the ring.

What is your return policy?

Because you will work closely with our designer from start to finish on your jewelry, it is quite unlikely you will not be satisfied with the end result. However, if for any reason you are unhappy with the finished product, you may return the jewelry to Western Mokume within 14 days of delivery. Because each piece is custom-made for you, you will be given store credit to apply to another piece, minus a restocking fee, which varies depending on the piece. Keep in mind that the prices of precious metals fluctuate daily, so the store credit you receive might not be equivalent to the original purchase price. Any stones purchased are non-refundable, but we will gladly use them in a new design. If you are not satisfied with your product and only want slight modifications, the jeweler is happy to work with you and provide one free hour of labor. Any additional charges will be applied, depending on the complexity of the modification.

Can I Provide my Own Stones?

Absolutely! We are happy to use customer stones in designs. If you do not have a stone, we offer a wide variety of ethically-sourced stones for you to choose from.

What is your Warranty?

All of our jewelry comes with a lifetime warranty for normal wear and tear. If any damage is incurred post-delivery, we are happy to work with you to repair your piece; shipping is not included and the charges associated vary depending on the complexity of the repair. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding your product’s warranty, please contact us.

Can I Resize my Ring?

Plain bands (those that do not include stones) can be resized up or down 3/4 to 1 full ring size without having to cut into the ring. In this circumstance, there will not be an additional charge as long as the adjustment is requested within 14 days of receipt. With all other rings, all resizing will be determined by their design and what resizing options are available. Charges will be determined on a case-by-case basis based on how long the process takes.
